National Honor Society

This is one last attempt to see if anyone is interested in sponsoring NHS!!

The Madison High School National Honor Society (Club) will end during the 2013-2014 school year, unless someone decides they would like to sponsor the club. This means no new members will be inducted during the 2011-2012 and 2012 -2013 school year. This decision was reached due to the lack of enthusiam shown by the members over the past two years. If anyone feels like they would like to try to make the program a more active club, please let me know by the end of the school year. We will continue the club for current members until they graduate.

Lauren Froman’s Trip to DC

Lauren is part of the North Carolina HOSA officer team. She and the rest of her officer group along with the advisor all traveled to Washington DC on September 11, 2010 and returned to NC on September 14, 2010. While in Washington Lauren went through tons of leadership sessions and was able to meet other state officers from all around the nation. They exercised their leadership skills in an activity called “A Quest for Leadership”. This was a huge scavenger hunt through the Smithsonian Museums in DC to discover what type of leadership that they held within their selves. Also on this trip they were able to meet our congressmen and got to speak with them about what HOSA is and the importance of HOSA. During all of this excitement they also got to speak with Senator Richard Burr and have a picture with him. With the help of the district HOSA and National HOSA sponsors Lauren was able to have this wonderful experiences with no charge. Our chapter paid for her airline ticket but other than that it was no charge to her. When Lauren returned from her trip, I had asked Lauren if she had learned anything from this experience and this was the response that I was given. “Yes definitely! In a way it made me more outgoing and it was easier to meet new people there but I learned how to be a better leader, what kind of leader I am, and the importance of being a leader. I also learned lots of ways to help our chapter with things like membership, community service projects, and recognition for the members.”

December 1st is the kick off date for Operation Santa! New unwrapped toys and nonperishable food will be collected and may be placed in the library, Brad Sprinkle's room or Karen Blevins' room. Students will come around to classrooms to take donations of money. If you or your club would like to donate money and write a check, please make it out to Madison High School. Gayla will put it into an account and write one check to Operation Santa. Last year Operation Santa was able to help 40 families in Madison County. Madison High raised $1500 plus toys and food items. Our hope is we can raise the same or more!! Thank you for everything you do.

JROTC

On Wednesday, November 11, 2009 nine JROTC cadets spent about two hours in the rain to see the dedication of a new memorial in Asheville. The program preluded with the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus. The 82nd Airborne Chorus marched in and showed all the people, who attended the dedication, a portion of the preparation of the jumping out of a C-130 (Hercules) airplane. They sang different cadences and songs after the C-130 simulation. At two o’clock the ceremony began. The ceremony consisted of speeches, memories, and the process to get the memorial constructed. Flags were raised by several other JROTC units and a local Boy Scout troop. Representative Heath Shuler and Richard Burr attended and were pointed out for supporting the dedication and building of the monument. The monument is at Pack Square in Downtown Asheville.

MHS's Winter Service Project

Starting on December the 1st Madison High Schools clubs will begin to collect toys and cash donations to assist local families with making a Merry Christmas for local families. Please be on the lookout for students collecting money and a drop box in the Library for un-wrapped toys.

BAM----Neighbors In Need needs your help!

This week when you are at Ingles in Mars Hill and Marshall could you take the time to pick up an extra non-perishable food item and put it in the food box for Neighbors In Need. Ingles will not allow Neighbors In Need to have anyone handing out information to customers. Neighbors In Need is a food pantry for Madison County. It is located in Marshall. BAM helped put food donated up on the shelves this weekend. BAM has helped for the past 5 years and I have never witnessed the shelves being so low on food. The donations were also the lowest I have ever seen. It is hard to see the food box in Ingles. You will find it against the wall when you come into the store. Thank you so much for your help.

BAM-Cutting firewood-Needs Help

BAM needs help on December 12th cutting firewood. We have helped provide firewood for several elderly families for years. All the rain this year has put us behind cutting. We have delivered almost all our wood we had cut. If you can help please let me know. BAM is also in need of a wood splitter. If anyone would like to donate one to us or sale us one for a low cost please let me know.

JROTC - Veterans Day celebration

On November 10, 2008 the Madison High JROTC presented the colors at the annual Veterans Day celebration at Madison Middle School. The color guard for the ceremony consisted of- Darren Diedrich, Wesley Ensley, Britney Radin and Ian Bond. The Madison Middle dance and choir clubs both put together performances for the veterans. Overall the celebration was a wonderful honor for veterans everywhere

MOC Gaming Club will hold it's next meeting

The MOC Gaming Club will hold it's next meeting on Thursday, November 12th, from 3:30-5:00 in Mr. Rice's room B-102. This meeting will include the annual student-hosted costume party! Come dressed as your favorite gaming character, whether it be from Zelda, Dungeons & Dragons, WoW or some other game. Sign up on Ms. Sanderson's door (room B-100) to indicate food and drinks that you will bring to the party.

FCA- Youth Rally
